While in linear systems it may be reasonable to aim at knowing as much as possible and basing decisions on this knowledge, it is essential for the regulation of complex systems to recognize and accept that there are complexity-related non-knowables. New situations open up new combinations of possibilities and stimulate the imagination to create new realities that were not even conceivable before. The ability to innovate does not primarily depend on the amount of accumulated knowledge and experience, but above all on the perceived possibilities, creativity and implementation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">A short dialog between father and son according to Gregory Bateson shall serve as an illustration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">Son: &#8220;Do fathers always know more than their sons?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">Father: &#8220;Yes.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">Son: &#8220;Who invented the steam engine?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">Father: &#8220;James Watt.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-example wp-block-paragraph\">Son: &#8220;Then why didn&#8217;t James Watt&#8217;s father invent the steam engine?&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":5633,"menu_order":9900,"template":"","meta":{"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"jask_topic_categories":[757],"class_list":["post-5638","jask_topic","type-jask_topic","status-publish","hentry","jask_topic_categories-akzeptanz-des-nicht-wissens-en"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Acceptance of not knowing- consultingcheck<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Managers of companies cannot always know everything.
