Certify management systems correctly

You can have your management system certified as conforming to DIN EN ISO 9001, your environmental management system certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14.001, your energy management system certified in accordance with EN ISO 50.001, your occupational health and safety management system certified in accordance with ISO 45000 or OHASAS 18001, and your information security management system certified in accordance with ISO 27001. These are generally the best-known management systems and the standards on which they are based.

In the meantime, there are many other management systems that you can have certified. For example, the enterprise risk management system in accordance with ISO 31000, the business continuity management system in accordance with ISO 22301, the 28001 for supply chain security management systems, and the social responsibility management system in accordance with ISO 26000. There is the ISO 10002 standard for customer complaint management systems.

Depending on the industry, other system certifications may be added: For example, in the automotive industry, the ISO 16949 standard prevails for the automotive quality management system, and in steel construction, ISO 3834 is used for welding technology management systems. In the food industry, ISO 22000 has been introduced for food safety management systems; in software development, the software process evaluation system according to ISO 15504 is common; in forest management, the FSC-COC is known for forest management systems, and in road construction, 39001 for management systems for road and traffic safety, and translation service providers align themselves with 15038 for translation services management systems.

And certifiers also have their processes certified to a standard, ISO IEC 17021-1:2015, in order to be accredited for certifications.

Decide which management systems you want to develop and weigh up whether the ongoing expense of certification is worth it for your organization.
